WE travel to BELIZE

2016

Our expedition through Central America continues this week and this time we travel to Belize.

Belize, in the colonial era called British Honduras, is a small state on the northeast coast of Central America, where english is the official language but where spanish and native tongues is also spoken. Belize has borders with Mexico and Guatemala, have on the east the Honduras gulf and the caribbean sea. With a population of 333 200 inhabitants, the country has the smallest population density of the continent. The capital is Belmopan, but Belize City is the biggest town. The quantity of wildlife species and it's diversity make Belize one of the key-spots of the Mesoamerican Wildlife Corridor. Belize has a diversified society, containing several cultures and languages. It is the only nation of the region with a british cultural heritage, but, being part of the west of Central America, it also shares a common heritage with the other central-american countries.
