WE say SUSTAINABILITY, INNOVATION AND COMMUNITY!!!

September 19, 2024

Dear friends,

Francis Kéré, an architect from Burkina Faso and a graduate of the Technical University of Berlin, was in Matosinhos this week to visit the Paços do Concelho building. The 59-year-old architect was honoured in 2022 with the Pritker Prize (considered the most important award in world architecture) for being considered a pioneer of sustainable architecture.

Francis Kéré is a pioneer of architecture in lands with very few resources - he works tirelessly for the sustainability of the planet and its inhabitants. In lands often forgotten by the world, he has improved the living conditions and life experiences of countless people. Kéré's architectural work is beautiful, humble, daring and innovative. A perfect unity of architectural character and personal style.

When he visited the Paços do Concelho, designed by architect Alcino Soutinho (1930-2013), the Burkinabe architect was impressed by the Matosinhos Town Hall (the first public building to be built after the 25 April Revolution), particularly the materials used, the furniture, the light and the beauty.

Let's celebrate together the power of innovation, which integrates community and sustainability. A huge XIIIIIIII! Fátima C. Brízio
