WE visit FLOWERS, BY MANUEL VALENCIA!

2021

Dear Friends,

Today we are pleased to introduce you to the Flowers I & II exhibitions, by Manuel Valencia!

Manuel Valencia is a spanish artist, born in the city of Madrid. In order to create his vast work, both written and visual, Valencia is constantly looking for answers in nature, worrying him about the duality between chaos and the order of the universe. Guided by intuition and poetry, he masterfully explores the relationship between unity and the multiplicity of representations he finds in botany, the sea or the landscapes he represents. With a clearly unique style and after living in China for more than 5 years, the artist uses different materials on handmade Xuan rice paper.

For the first time presented in Portugal, you can visit the work of Manuel Valencia simultaneously, in two spaces in the city of Lisbon:

FLOWERS I • From 2 to 26 June 2021. • Inauguration: Thursday, June 1, from 5 pm to 8 pm. • Exhibition at Galeria Sá da Costa. From Monday to Saturday, from 2:30 pm to 7:00 pm.

FLOWERS II • From June 2 to July 5, 2021. • Inauguration: Thursday, June 2, from 5 pm to 8 pm. • Exhibition at the Museu Nacional de História Natural e da Ciência (MUHNAC).. From Tuesday to Sunday, from 10 am to 5 pm.

The works presented in these shows are part of an extensive project on imaginary flowers, first shown in Shanghai in 2018, now expanded and renovated. In the Flowers project, Manuel Valencia, guided by intuition and poetry, is inspired by botany to create imaginary flower designs. Following Linnaeus' binomial nomenclature, he gives them non-existent botanical names, and also makes up a story about how these flowers were discovered. In 2018, the publisher Purple Roof (China) published a book in English entitled "Flowers" about the Valencia project, along with texts by Menene Gras Balaguer.

The artist also presents three books that give a clue as to how the project was conceived.

We must support art and culture! We invite you to visit these wonderful exhibitions!

A huge HUUUUUG! Fátima C. Brízio
