WE remember INAUGURATION OF THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF EGYPTIAN CIVILIZATION!

2021

Dear Friends,

Today we bring you what was the great event of April 3, in Egypt: the inauguration of the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization!

In a truly dignified and fabulous cultural spectacle, twenty-two carriages with the mummies of eighteen kings and four queens of Ancient Egypt paraded through the streets of Cairo, destined for the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, the new home of the royal mummies.

Discovered near the city of Luxor, from 1881, most of the twenty-two mummies have not left Tahrir Square since the beginning of the 20th century, where the Egyptian Museum of Cairo is located. The square was closed to the circulation of cars and people, as well as the entire seven-kilometer journey to the new museum, located in the district of Fustat, where the mummies will be exposed to the public in a wider space, starting on April 18, no although the museum opened on April 4.

Under cannon fire, the carriages arrived at the museum after half an hour, and were received by the President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah al-Sissi, who, at the beginning of the night, reviewed some collections, accompanied by the Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouli , and by the Director-General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay.

In the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, the mummies will be next to their sarcophagi, in a scenario evoking the underground tombs of the kings, and with biographical information and some objects.

"It's called a civilization museum, because the most important thing here is the concept of civilization, not a specific era or era. Each exhibition tells a different history or concept of civilization. We connect all civilizations here." - Asmaa Said, National Museum of Egyptian Civilization
