Dear Friends,

Today we celebrate the Day of Portugal!

During the dictatorial regime of the Estado Novo from 1933 until the Carnation Revolution of April 25, 1974, June 10 was celebrated as "Race Day: the Portuguese race or the Portuguese".

After the revolution of the 25th of April 1974, the celebration of the 10th of June started to pay tribute to Portugal, to the great poet Luís Vaz de Camões, author of "Os Lusíadas", the greatest epic work in Portugal, who died on the 10th. of June 1580, and to the Portuguese Communities.

On this day, the President of the Republic and high-ranking individuals from the State participate in ceremonies commemorating the Day of Portugal, Camões and the Portuguese Communities, which take place in different cities every year. New individuals are distinguished annually for their work on behalf of the nation.

"The weapons and Barons appointed That of the western Lusitana beach, By seas never sailed before They also went beyond Taprobana, In perils and strenuous wars, More than human strength promised, And among remote people they built New kingdom, which so sublimated;..."

"Os Lusíadas", "Canto" first - 1, Luís Vaz de Camões

Good holiday!
